Hello Everyone,
I hope all is well. Over this month I have heard from many of you and I am just amazed at all the hard work that is being done by participants all over the world. It continues to truly inspire me and renews my faith in people.
As this collaborative roles along I am desperately seeking financial support.
I have written dozens of grant proposals seeking financial support from
private foundations. However I have not received any support as
of now. I do realize however it takes some time to hear back from these
organizations. My faith in this collaborative is strong, and I do
belief that this work is for the greater good of our communities,
artists, youth, and the arts. I am wholly convinced that if we can get
the word out about this project to the right people we will gain
support; it is just a matter of doing so and of having the finances to
do it. My goal still remains to get the local community and then the
national and international communities involved over the coming years.
So that I might travel with this installation through out the nation
and then international covering abandoned gas stations and working in
each community locally. I want this collaborative to be come a home
grown name, recognized, and acting as a staple in the Fiber and
Sculpture Community.
Also, I would like to put together a video of short clips
sent in by participants or those opposed to this project from all over
the world, for a Gallery show in March 2008 promoting this project. If
you would like to submit a short 1-4 minute video of you describing
your views and/or interest on this project, or just working on your
panel, please feel free to email me if you would like to do this. You
can also show off any work in progress or your interest in the fiber
arts. You may include this March show as a collaborative work in which
you were involved in. Please consider this as a great way of
participating and accelerating this project.
I had a lovely experience visiting Radford University
this month. I had the opportunity to host a visiting artist lecture on
my work and the International Fiber Collaborative. I would like to
thank Courtney Lee Weida from Radford University, VA, for making this
happen, as well as her work in creating a local group to come together
to create panels for this project. Courtney is also working on writing
and publishing a chapter that will include this project and it’s effect
on positive change. So, thank you Courtney.
I would also like to thank Marilyn G. from British Columbia
for her contributions and guidance in promoting such a large project.
Her enthusiasm in writing press releases and creating substantial
databases of email addresses has been priceless. So, thank you
again Marilyn. Comprehensive Virtual Editing Services, British Columbia
I have scheduled several workshops
through Syracuse University, and Syracuse Local elementary, middle, and
high schools to take part in participating in this project by learning
how to crochet, knit and decorate panels, as well as learn more about
public art and contemporary practices in the fiber and sculpture arts.
If you know of a University or Grade school interested in participating
shoot me an email. I now have over 1400 grade school students
participating.
I would like to continue this project to other abandoned gas stations nationally and internationally for the next several years and
build up a positive reputation. So I need all you participants out
there to scout out any abandoned gas stations that might be in your
area. If you can locate an address for the gas station and a phone
number of the owner that would be great. I will leave it up to you guys
to help me prolong this collaborative. And if you send me images of
abandoned gas stations I will post them on the website along with your
name under it. I would love to come work in your community.
Make sure to check the website periodically for any new updates. I add new information on a daily bases.
Take Care,
Jennifer Marsh
